In 2001, humanity faces an existential threat from the BETA, extraterrestrial beings determined to wipe out the human race. Over the previous two decades, these invaders have seized much of the Eurasian landmass, causing a catastrophic decline in the global population by billions. In response, mankind has accelerated the development of advanced weaponry, especially sophisticated combat machines. Elite pilots from around the globe assemble at the United Nations facility Yukon in Alaska for the Prominence Project, a collaborative effort between Russia and America aimed at creating weapons capable of destroying the BETA. The primary duty of these pilots is to test experimental machine prototypes, a task that frequently leads to combat against one another.
