For eight years, Shion Ishiwatari has lived as Shion Yasuoka after being taken in by the Yasuoka family, following the brutal murder of her parents—an event that left her unable to speak. Drawing on fragmented and vivid memories from her childhood, she develops a deep passion for shogi and pursues the path to becoming a professional player, or kishi. Her ultimate goal is to reach the highest rank in shogi, the title of meijin. Even as a persistent stalker threatens her safety, Shion remains focused on her ambitions. As she moves closer to realizing her dream, the hidden truths of her past and the mysteries concealed within the shogi board begin to surface.
