In Route 20, people live in a metal city enclosed by a glass dome, which shields its inhabitants from the polluted air of the outside world. The city is controlled by a paranoid, oppressive police state. The residents feel free and secure, even though they are essentially prisoners. But some rebellious boys feel differently. Ushiji is one of them—a boy who follows his dream, or rather, rides it: his motorcycle and its symbolic meaning of freedom, along with the memories of his grandfather's tales about a world without the rules and hypocrisies of the outside.
