At Sheol Academy, a school for the dead located in a parallel realm, Mitamura works as a teacher. On a field trip to the human world with his student, Tsuru Shimizu, Mitamura loses track of her. While searching for Shimizu, he accidentally collides with twenty-year-old Hanasuke Onigawara on his scooter. Hanasuke, who died in a truck accident the previous day, shows an unusual ability to heal quickly. Struggling to accept his own death, Hanasuke agrees to help Mitamura find Shimizu in exchange for advice on how to return to life. Both men face tight deadlines; if Shimizu is not found within seven days, Hanasuke will be sent to Sheol permanently, and Mitamura risks losing his job. Using various methods to locate Shimizu, their efforts are constantly overshadowed by the approaching deadline. Additionally, the first volume includes the one-shot story Susukaburi.

The first three volumes of Countdown 7 Days were published in English by Digital Manga Publishing from May 3, 2011, to September 4, 2012, before the series was dropped.
