In Yamada Tarou Monogatari, Taro Yamada is seen as a flawless bishonen at a school for wealthy students, praised for his intelligence, athleticism, and kindness. In truth, he lives in severe poverty with six younger siblings, a mother who struggles to manage finances, and a father who is an artist and often absent. His main concern is getting enough food for his family. To survive, Taro relies on bento lunches from admiring classmates, works multiple part-time jobs, and has a loyal pet dog he can depend on in tough times. Each day brings a new challenge for the Yamada family just to get by.
