In the year 1921, steam-powered mechanical monsters disrupt a cherry blossom viewing event in Tokyo, only to be defeated by a young girl wearing a kimono and traditional hakama. Japan has enjoyed peace and prosperity for eight years following the devastating Demon War. Ensign Ogami Ichiro, a fresh graduate of the Naval Academy, receives orders to a base in Tokyo. He is assigned to the Imperial Theater, where his first duty is collecting entrance fees. Despite the mundane tasks, he navigates his new surroundings filled with beautiful women who seem to know more than they let on. Soon, he finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of robots, demons, and women in military uniforms.

Sakura Taisen had seven volumes published in English by Tokyopop from December 13, 2005 to May 1, 2008, before the publisher became defunct.
