The Alm is where Heidi's heart truly lies, living with her grandfather and sharing her days with goatherd Peter and his goats. When her relative Dete removes her and puts her in a rich home to be a companion to a crippled girl, the head housekeeper constantly scolds Heidi for her lack of refinement.
