Tamako has an extensive understanding of mochi, a traditional Japanese confection. Alongside her high school studies, she enjoys creating new mochi flavors and styles for her family’s shop, Tama-ya. Yet balancing school life and adolescence proves tough for her. With encouragement from her closest friends, Kanna and Midori—whose families also run stores in the local market—Tamako strives to make the most of her experiences. Matters grow more complicated, especially concerning her feelings for Mochizou, a boy who is both her best friend and rival, since his family operates a competing mochi shop. Furthermore, Midori appears to be developing some unusual emotions toward Tamako. Then there is the strange presence of a talking bird wandering about. Despite the confusion and mystery, Tamako finds comfort in her love for mochi, ensuring that each trip through Tamako Market ends with a sweet treat, whether the day was good or bad.
