In the era of Napoleon's France, even though the Revolution introduced new laws and a form of representative government, certain sectors of society remained unchanged—particularly the grim prisons such as the one where a young boy named Guys is wrongfully confined. Accused of murder, he faces a lifelong sentence despite being innocent. Guys, used to scavenging and avoiding the authorities to survive, became caught in a tangle of accusation and condemnation without grasping the charges against him. As he plunges further into the brutal reality of prison life, marked by violence and betrayal, he holds onto his wish for exoneration. Among the danger and hostility, unexpected allies appear, including a lawyer struggling with alcoholism and fellow prisoners whose sanity appears fragile. Gradually, Guys uncovers the depth of the malicious scheme that trapped him. Despite his attempts to unravel the mystery, despair eats at him as he grieves his lost liberty. Each day, he battles for his dignity and survival, while those accountable for his fate watch with cruel amusement. "I just want to be free..." Can his determination and strength overcome the hardened souls around him? Can he discover the truth and find redemption?
