A two-story manga. The first story follows a girl named Ruby who discovers a mask that grants her powers, given by an alien visiting Earth. This version originally appeared in *Shougaku Ninensei* (for second graders) and *Shougaku Sannensei* (for third graders). The alternate version is included in the Osamu Tezuka Complete Manga Works edition of *Marvelous Melmo*. The second half features Jungle Taitei, simplified and rewritten for third graders, as a tie-in to the then-ongoing 1966 anime. In the jungle, lion cub Leo must stop an aggressive red rhinoceros from harming his jungle friends. A boxing match breaks out between Leo and a rogue lion named Bubu. Leo rescues a brave hero, and that hero takes revenge on an elderly leopard named Lubar. Finally, Laman, Laiya's long-lost brother, tells a story about how a hydra-snake devoured their entire family.
