Fourteen-year-old Madoka Kaname experiences a surreal dream of a strange creature and a girl in distress. The next day, a new student named Homura Akemi arrives in her class, looking exactly like the girl from her dream. That evening, Madoka hears a voice pleading for help inside her head, belonging to a wounded Kyuubey, the feline-like being from her dream. She finds Homura at Kyuubey's side, warning her to stay away from the injured creature. Shocked to see Homura attacking Kyuubey, Madoka rescues the creature with the help of her close friend, Sayaka Miki. After they escape, Kyuubey offers the girls a deal: become magical girls in exchange for having any wish granted. However, the truth behind this offer is far more complicated, and the cost of their wishes may be greater than they ever imagined.
