The Korean version of Robin Hood, "Il-Ji-Mae" follows a hero who aided the poor by stealing from the wealthy and powerful. Set during the Joseon Dynasty, Yong acted as a street hoodlum during the day, but at night he became a thief who robbed corrupt government officials to give to the needy. After each theft, he left behind a painting of a plum tree branch as his signature, earning him the name Iljimae. His true goal was not merely theft but to find the owner of a distinctive sword—the same weapon he saw used to kill his father, a loyal imperial subject, when he was a child.
