BE-BOP-HIGHSCHOOL follows two rough-and-tumble high school friends, Kato Hiroshi and Nakama Toru, who constantly cause trouble and start fights. Hiroshi and Toru have classic 1950s slicked-back haircuts and an exaggerated coolness that is both amusing and oddly stylish. The manga features a colorful cast of unique characters with bizarre clothing and hairstyles. The series blends intense confrontations with teen drama, reminiscent of a mix between Fight Club and The Breakfast Club.

Background
Be-Bop Highschool won the 12th Kodansha Manga Award in the General category in 1988, along with Bonobono. The manga was adapted into six Japanese live-action films from 1985 to 1988, a live-action TV series, and a 1988 video game released on the Nintendo Famicom developed by Data East.
