The ruthless Lord Daigo Kagemitsu makes a pact with 48 demons, offering up the body parts of his newborn son in exchange for power. He casts the mutilated infant into a river and goes on to build a prosperous kingdom without a trace of guilt. Yet the child survives, gaining heightened spiritual senses that allow him to perceive the world even though he lacks eyes, ears, limbs, and a voice. A skilled doctor discovers and raises the boy, naming him Hyakkimaru and equipping him with advanced prosthetics that enable him to walk and fight. Unfortunately, Hyakkimaru's demonic nature attracts otherworldly creatures, endangering the doctor's life. As a result, the boy is sent out to wander the land on his own. During his travels, Hyakkimaru discovers that slaying the demons who stole his body parts can restore them. Determined to reclaim his full humanity, he swears to destroy all of them. Along the way, he meets Dororo, a self-proclaimed master thief, who tags along out of curiosity about Hyakkimaru's weapon. Together they journey through a countryside plagued by both demons and cruel humans—the latter sometimes posing an even greater threat.
