For centuries, the Ougi family has been warding off malevolent forces under the protection of their guardian deity, Karura (the Japanese Buddhist counterpart of the Hindu Garuda). However, when twins are born into the 38th generation, their inherited powers are divided between them. Shouko is granted the spiritual abilities of the 'Scroll of Heaven,' while Maiko receives the physical abilities of the 'Scroll of Earth.' Their personalities contrast just as sharply, but by working together they can overcome any evil.
