As a second-year middle school student, Yukiteru Amano struggles to connect with those around him, instead choosing to observe the world from a distance and faithfully record his findings in his cellphone diary. Feeling alone, he invents an imaginary friend called Deus Ex Machina, who declares themselves to be the Lord of Time & Space. Taking pity on Yukiteru's isolated existence, Deus grants him a special power: his diary can now foresee future occurrences. Armed with this ability, Yukiteru is thrust into a deadly contest where he must compete for the right to take Deus's place.
