Tsuyoshi Dojima is a left-handed pitcher carrying the hopes of Osaka's Asayo High School baseball team as their future ace. Every day, he trains relentlessly under the watchful eyes of Negi-sensei, a mentor who is kind yet demanding, along with coach Gazi. But his path to the ace title is not a smooth one. He faces fierce competition from rival pitcher Koichi Hirobe, whose father happens to be the school board chairman. Worse, a succession of hardships strikes: his father Gozo is sent to prison, his mother Shizuko dies in a car accident, and an incident with a professional baseball scout only adds to his troubles. Yet despite all of this, the question remains—can anything keep him from becoming the ace?
