After losing his son, Donovan Barrett wanted nothing more than to shut himself away from everything. He gave up his career as a doctor and left his wife behind, all in an effort to never be responsible for causing anyone pain again. When he decides to go back to his home in Lake Geneva, Anna Nowell—the maid who had been looking after the property during his absence—worries about losing her job and all the excellent benefits. She sets out to make herself essential by handling everything on her own. Not only does she manage to keep the house in order, but through kindness and determination, she also ends up helping Donovan reclaim his life.
