From her adolescent years, Shiki Magata was a programming prodigy. After being taken into custody for killing her parents, she was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder and cleared of all charges. Ever since, Shiki has been confined to her room at the Magata Research Institute on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean. She has not stepped outside that room in the fifteen years that followed. Because Moe Nishinosono—a first-year student at N University—had personal ties to Shiki, Souhei Saikawa, an associate professor and Moe's mentor, is preparing for a field seminar at the campground on the island where the institute stands. When Saikawa visits the facility at night, invited by Moe, they stumble upon a horrific sequence of murders. Somehow, all contact with the outside world is severed. Saikawa and Moe launch their own inquiry and uncover an enigmatic note: "Everything turns to F." It is found on Dr. Shiki Magata's computer, from which the majority of data has been wiped. Sensing that this phrase might be the key to cracking the case, Saikawa pursues his line of reasoning and narrows in on the truth.
