Lord d'Arenville is strikingly handsome, almost like a Greek statue, but his cold treatment of women has earned him the nickname the Ice Earl. Tallie, a resident tutor, is busy organizing a party for him when she accidentally overhears him say that what he wants in a wife is someone with good teeth and hips wide enough for childbearing. She is furious that he reduces women to such standards, and her anger only intensifies when she discovers he thinks she would make him a suitable wife.
