Tobio Ikuse, a second-year high school student, came down with a severe fever and was forced to miss his school's luxury liner trip with his classmates. Four days later, he hears the devastating news that the teachers and second-year students from his school have disappeared. A few months after the incident, as Tobio slowly recovers from the sudden loss of his friends, he accidentally runs into one of them again. Chasing after his missing friend Sasaki, Tobio finally catches up but is shocked to find Sasaki alongside a Lizard Monster, and the two attack him. Cornered by the monster, Tobio is rescued by Natsume Minagawa, another survivor from the missing luxury liner, who hands him an egg before leaving. Later that night, Tobio is attacked once more, this time by two people accompanied by monsters. Amid the ensuing chaos, a Puppy emerges from Tobio's shadow and rescues him. After the two monsters are fended off, Natsume approaches Tobio again and decides to take him to their hideout.
