Emma Ji and Ryan Nam have lived next door to each other and been close friends since they were kids. Emma tends to be forgetful and depends heavily on Ryan and his unusual family, who have taken care of her while her parents are away. The Nam family handles Emma’s everyday tasks—waking her up in the morning, tidying her room—acting almost like overprotective guardians. They also conceal a supernatural secret that grows harder to keep hidden with Emma constantly around. One afternoon after school, Emma arrives home and finds a big dog sleeping on her balcony. She wonders if Ryan knows anything about the dog, especially since he seems to vanish every time it shows up.
