In "Pupipo!", fifth-grader Himeji Wakaba possesses a special gift: she can see invisible entities, usually malevolent spirits that threaten those around her. This ability isolates her, leaving her friendless and rarely smiling. She often rescues stray animals, but her parents always refuse to let her keep them. Worried about their daughter's sadness, they promise to allow her to adopt whatever she brings home next. Wakaba's next rescue is Pupipo, a pink monster. True to their word, her parents let her keep it. Though Pupipo's true nature remains unknown, it protects Wakaba from the harmful spirits she encounters. Furthermore, Pupipo helps Wakaba make friends—especially with a new classmate who is fascinated by the occult—and assists in resolving bullying issues. With Pupipo by her side, Wakaba's life takes a turn for the better.
