Yaichi Kuzuryu is a teenage boy who stands as the most powerful shogi player ever, currently holding the prestigious "Ryuo" (Dragon King) title. His life takes a sudden turn when Ai Hinatsuru, an elementary school girl deeply in love with shogi, shows up and insists that he once promised to become her master. Whether such a promise was actually made remains unclear, but this encounter sparks the beginning of their master-apprentice relationship.
