The year is 2019, and childhood friends Yashio Kaito and Senomiya Akiho are beginning their final year of high school. They are the only members of the robotics club, which has recently had its school funding cut. Akiho is deeply passionate about robots and is determined to finish the giant robot that her older sister, Misaki, started building during her own time in the club. In contrast, Kaito shows little interest in robotics and is far more absorbed in video games, particularly "Kill Ballad Online." He keeps his membership in the club only because of his bond with Akiho. When Kaito is falsely accused of cheating in the game he loves, Akiho takes a risky gamble by betting the club's future in order to raise the money needed to complete her sister's giant robot.
