Film wa Ikiteiru

Aimed at a teen audience, this manga centers on a boy who is deeply devoted to creating animated films and throws himself entirely into that goal. The story follows the imaginative youth Miyamoto Musashi, who moves to Tokyo hoping to produce manga films (anime). When he visits a manga film studio, an experienced scriptwriter named Danmatsuma gives him blunt criticism, pointing out the lack of vitality in Musashi's character movements. Soon afterward, Musashi meets another aspiring filmmaker, Sasaki Kojiro, and they quickly become friends. But their bond turns competitive after they have a disagreement. After a clash with yakuza members, Musashi meets Otsu, the daughter of the yakuza boss. In retaliation, the yakuza destroy his collection of 50,000 animation pieces, ruin his filmmaking equipment, and damage his eyesight. Despite these hardships, Musashi draws inspiration from his beloved childhood horse, Ao, which encourages him to resume making his manga film centered on Ao.
