In Aldarake, Princess Saltorine—who goes by Sally—grows restless with her sheltered royal existence and yearns for adventure. This desire intensifies after she encounters a mysterious traveler with long hair named Mikoto Kibitsu, who helps her during an unsuccessful escape from the castle. Even though Mikoto warns her about the perils outside, Sally insists on accompanying him. Their travels are soon disrupted when a band of vicious oni attacks, but Mikoto, revealing himself to be the oni-slaying hero Momotaro, defeats them and then leaves. A month later, with a newfound sense of purpose, Sally abandons her royal status to seek excitement and find Mikoto again. Though she quickly realizes the true dangers beyond her homeland, she also uncovers hidden facets of herself she never knew existed.
