A decade ago, Tokyo's night sky was swallowed by darkness when the mysterious Hell's Gate suddenly appeared in the city's heart, ushering in a new kind of star. Each of these stars signifies a Contractor—a person granted supernatural abilities, but stripped of emotion and moral restraint, making them cold-blooded killers. High schooler Kana Shinoh lives unaware that Contractors walk among ordinary citizens. Since losing her father a year ago, she has focused on piecing her life back together, paying little attention to the rumors surrounding Hell's Gate. Everything changes when she spots a man on the street who bears an uncanny resemblance to her deceased father. Driven by hope that he might still be alive, Kana sets out to track him down—only to quickly draw dangerous attention. Hei, the most-wanted Contractor in Tokyo, rescues her from harm. Though he shows no concern for her predicament, he agrees to protect her while she searches for her father. But can she truly trust the infamous Black Reaper?
