The story centers on D.P. (Danger Planet), a browser-based online game that employs V.P.s (Virtual Puppets) as stand-ins for players. Unlike typical avatars found in most online games of the time, V.P.s can be personalized or "modded" by users who possess sufficient programming skills. Kirio Nimura, an ordinary high school student who loves gaming, regularly plays Danger Planet with his friend Kurata after school. One day, they come across an exceptionally tough opponent. The fifth volume also contains a one-shot titled "Last Stop, Yuusha Isetsu."
