Patrolling messengers are orphans raised directly by the emperor who serve to monitor the activities of the kingdom's feudal lords. Only the most exceptional among them earn this prestigious role. The feudal lords, however, know that as long as they avoid serious offenses, the messengers will not intervene. Additionally, because these messengers lack family ties to the royal bloodline, they remain vulnerable to political pressure from outside influences. Bloom served as a messenger for three years before being granted his own territory—though it was a remote and isolated area. This land had been bought up by a powerful noble out of spite after Bloom reported him for illegally accumulating wealth. Despite these difficulties, Bloom took up his post with resolve, committed to carrying out his duties for the kingdom. His designated area was a quiet village with kind-hearted residents and a royal princess living in a decaying castle. At first, Bloom faithfully performed his tasks, such as collecting taxes and investigating any secret communications with neighboring states. Over time, however, he began to wish to become part of the community and improve the town's fortunes, aspiring to revitalize it.
