One morning, advertising man Muroi wakes up next to Yoshiko, the married woman he is having an affair with, and learns shocking news: a Japanese tanker—captained by Yoshiko's husband—has been sunk by Indonesian guerillas. The SDF deploys troops to intervene in Indonesia, and soon Japan establishes a Ministry of War, reinstates conscription, and begins reverting to its former state.
