During the European gold rush era, Jonathan Joestar—affectionately called JoJo—enjoys a comfortable, privileged existence at his family's manor in Liverpool, England. He devotes himself to the manners expected of a gentleman, living without much worry. That tranquility ends when Dio Brando arrives. Dio, a boy from London, comes to stay with the Joestars as repayment for a debt his father owes to Jonathan's father. Jonathan welcomes Dio as a new brother, but Dio secretly schemes to seize control of the Joestar wealth. As Dio's machinations grow more ruthless, Jonathan is forced to face him in a final, decisive conflict. This sets the stage for the saga of the Joestar bloodline, as Jonathan grows up and ultimately battles his adopted brother, meeting a host of strange allies and enemies along the way.
