Shinsekai yori

Approximately a millennium into the future, human society has collapsed and now exists in isolated villages. People possess a psychic power called Juryoku, which enables them to turn their thoughts into physical reality. Since modern technology is absent, Juryoku serves as the primary energy source. One day, a young girl named Saki and her friends discover an ancient robot designed to store data outside their village's borders. Inside it, they uncover historical records of humanity. These documents reveal that Juryoku was first discovered in the 21st century, sparking a global conflict between those with psychic abilities and those without. The psychics eventually triumphed, establishing an era of their supremacy. When the village adults learn that the children have accessed this forbidden knowledge, they seal away their Juryoku and banish them. Saki and her companions are driven into a nearby forest, where they encounter a large, hairless bipedal rodent called a Bakenezumi. Soon they become caught up in the ongoing war that these creatures are fighting.

Shinsekai yori is an adaptation of Kishi Yuusuke's science fantasy novel from 2008 of the same title. The series was published in English as From the New World by Vertical Inc. from November 12, 2013 to January 20, 2015.
