In the year 526, while the existence of witches and their magic is common knowledge, the deeper mysteries of sorcery remain concealed from the masses. The story centers on a mercenary—a hybrid of human and beast—disdainfully called a "fallen beast." Despite this label, they have always longed to be completely human. Their life changes upon encountering a witch. "Do you wish for a human form? Then serve as my protector, mercenary!" The witch introduces herself as "Zero" and reveals she is hunting for a rare magical tome, "The Book of Zero," stolen from her stronghold by thieves. This grimoire is said to hold vast magical power, capable of easily dominating the entire world. To achieve their dream of becoming human, the mercenary agrees to travel with Zero, even though they deeply distrust her. This tale follows the journey of a proud witch and a kindhearted beast.
