After an extended period away, the young shaman Samizo Kohei comes back from the dead bearing a prophecy about the end of the world. He returns only partially intact—much of his body has been replaced by transplanted limbs and organs from his former friends, each of which retains its own distinct personality. He goes back to his home turf in Shinjuku, where he operates as a psychic surgeon out of an unlicensed clinic. In this role, he acts as the de facto protector of Shinjuku's underground, investigating paranormal murder cases with the help of a strange collection of other mystics and beings that are part human. At the same time, the people around him question what Kohei has truly become and whether he has come back to stop the apocalypse... or to set it in motion.
