In the story élDLIVE, Chuuta Kokonose is a 14-year-old boy who has been troubled for years by a mysterious voice inside his head, causing his classmates to mock him for seeming to talk to himself. One day, a strange creature that looks like a three-eyed jellyfish follows Chuuta home and hits him with a beam of light, teleporting him into a chamber filled with alien beings. This location turns out to be a space police station operated by the organization called ēlDLIVE. Laine Brick, the head of the solar system division, informs Chuuta that he is a strong candidate for joining the force. However, Misuzu Sonokata—Chuuta’s romantic interest and a fellow student who is actually an ēlDLIVE officer—objects to his recruitment, saying he is not fit for the job. Despite Misuzu’s concerns, Chuuta, motivated by the inner voice, decides to take the entrance exam. During the test, he learns the startling truth: that voice has always been an alien living inside him. élDLIVE follows Chuuta, Misuzu, and the members of the solar system bureau as they work to protect the universe and maintain peace and order.

Background

As part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of ēlDLIVE were published in English in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shonen Jump from September 29 to October 20, 2014. The series was published digitally by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint from April 25, 2017 to October 22, 2019.
