A Western-style mansion stands isolated in a remote region, cut off from the rest of civilization. Hiruta, a scientist devoted to the study of moths, resides there with his two daughters, Junko and Yuko, while their deranged mother remains confined in the basement of the residence. Junko, who lost sight in one eye from an injury sustained in childhood, harbors intense jealousy toward her beautiful sister Yuko and treats her with constant cruelty. However, Junko is not Hiruta's biological daughter. Thirteen years earlier, when both Junko and Yuko were infants, Hiruta—having recently lost his wife—served as an assistant to Dr. Fujita Kazuo, a respected authority in the medical field. Hiruta's child, Yuko, was raised alongside Junko, who was born around the same time, under the care of Dr. Fujita's wife. One day, Dr. Fujita managed to isolate a compound derived from moth scales that dramatically enhanced the body's healing capabilities.
