After a failed job hunt, reclusive Sagara Kurohiko ventured into a mountain during a typhoon and was struck by lightning, resulting in his death. He miraculously awakens alive in a strange world dominated by a colossal sacred tree, and finds his body has reverted to his teenage form. Upon arriving at a nearby academy, he is immediately suspected of espionage and brought before the headmaster. During the journey, an incident provokes the headmaster's anger. Just as Kurohiko is about to be hit by a magical attack, his eyes fall on an ancient scroll. He grabs it and reads it aloud, causing four holes to appear and black chains to emerge, restraining the headmaster. It is revealed that Kurohiko has inadvertently cast a "Forbidden Art," a legendary and immensely powerful spell. Since no one else had ever been able to decipher the scroll, Kurohiko becomes the sole existing Forbidden Spellcaster. Impressed by this, the headmaster decides to enroll Kurohiko in the academy.
