The story of Ganbare Genki follows five-year-old Genki Horiguchi, who lost his mother at birth and was raised solely by his father, Shark Horiguchi. Shark was once a professional boxer but fell from fame and now wanders as a traveling fighter. Despite this, Genki firmly believes his father is still immensely tough and fated to be a champion. Inspired by his father, Genki aims to become a powerful boxer in his own right.
