Middle schooler Ryuunosuke is visiting his grandmother's house on an island. As he walks past the staircase leading to the second floor, a peculiar plant-like thing extends down from above. Intrigued, Ryuunosuke tries to go up the stairs, but his uncle stops him with an unusually grim expression, saying, "What are you doing?" and "You'd better not go up there." That night, however, Ryuunosuke's curiosity gets the better of him, and he decides to go upstairs after all.
