In 2001, an alien race called the BETA—an acronym for Beings of Extra Terrestrial origin and Adversary to humanity—attacked Earth. Over the next two decades, the BETA overran most of Eurasia, drastically reducing the global population. To fight this threat, humanity sped up the creation of tactical weapons. At the UN base in Alaska, known as Yukon, elite pilots from multiple nations assemble for the Prominence Project, a joint Russian-American effort to research and develop advanced tactical weapons to counter the BETA. These pilots test weapon prototypes, which sometimes involves battling one another.
