Soko no Nai Machi
底のない町
Umezu Kazuo published this mystery novel in 1956, soon after making his debut, as a new release from Osaka's Mishima Shobo. It was the first installment in a rental-book series that starred the boy detective Misaki Ichiro. Even during the peak of hard-boiled manga, the story overflows with supernatural elements, and the roots of the author's later works are already visible. Misaki Ichiro appears without warning in a rainy town, where he encounters a peculiar old man known as the town's lord. The old man takes out a photograph that Ichiro had been carrying, and there is something spider-like in the photograph... The e-book version does not include the "Forest Brothers and Sisters" and "Bottomless Town" Readers.
