Ye Tong is a cowardly, good-for-nothing evil spirit, while Lu Yan is an exceptionally daring man of remarkable talent—one who can actually lay his hands on spirits. Since evil spirits survive by feeding on human fear, and Lu Yan shows not the slightest trace of fright, Ye Tong finds himself in a bind. To make matters worse, Ye Tong is bound to the earth and cannot wander off. Stuck in this predicament, he faces the daily dread of going hungry, all while being scared out of his wits by Lu Yan, ridiculed by him, and subjected to one indignity after another at the man's hands.
