Existence is an endless chain of metamorphoses—from the inner changes that make someone a better person to the physical journey from infancy into adulthood and old age. Within Osamu Tezuka's universe, these transformations reveal the darker side of human nature. One machine turns society's cast-offs into prey that is all too easy to hunt. A farmer who loved to dance is reduced to a downtrodden drifter, with only his cat to keep him going. And a hulking oaf turns out to be the kindest, most feminine best friend anyone could hope for.
