A handful performed the forbidden hara-kiri rite, storing their souls at Kinkaku Temple for eventual reincarnation. The true chronicle of these ninjas was concealed and lost to history. In a later age dominated by cybernetics and digital networks, the ancient souls of malevolent ninjas have awakened from their thousand-year sleep and now haunt the shadows of Neo-Saitama. Fujikido Kenji, an ordinary salaryman, loses his family during a conflict between ninja clans.
