After an old acquaintance challenges him to a bet with a year's supply of gourmet sushi at stake, Kojiro—a high school kendo club supervisor struggling financially—sets out to win. To beat his friend's squad, he must assemble a team of five female kendo practitioners. His most promising candidate is Tamaki Kawazoe, the daughter of a renowned dojo headmaster and a highly skilled kendo athlete. The problem is that Tamaki doesn't care much for kendo as a recreational pursuit, leaving Kojiro with the difficult task of convincing her to join his lineup.
