Two prisoners manage to liberate themselves from a slave ship: one is a Japanese man, the other an African American. Upon escaping, the pair reaches the shore of Edo-era Japan, a society defined by a rigid caste structure and sealed off from the outside world. How will the Japanese people view this huge black man, and how will the two survive? But before anything else, how do they get the irons off their feet?
