Kane Blueriver and an AI companion named Canal work as freelance contractors, taking on various assignments that require their unique abilities, such as security and fugitive capture. Milly, a determined private investigator striving to become the top detective in the universe, crosses paths with them. The three soon become caught up in a series of incidents, slowly solving a puzzle that links the legendary Lost Ships to their own pasts. As they draw closer to the truth, they unknowingly challenge Nightmare, a being determined to prevent their discovery.
