Fathoms of Atonement

Jinshuilang is a mer who seeks redemption for the errors that led to the death of his closest companion, Huoliu. Though he managed to preserve Huoliu's soul so it could be reborn, a century of searching and lingering remorse over failing to recognize his true feelings in time followed. Eventually he locates Huoliu's reincarnation, a human now called Wen Honglin. Yet the cost of this second opportunity might prove far heavier than he ever anticipated.
