Maruru was a pampered house cat until the day he chased after a flock of sparrows and got lost. He met Hachi, a hardened stray, who told him he didn't want a spoiled domestic cat on his turf and drove him off. However, Maruru later helped Hachi out of a tight spot, and the two joined forces to survive life on the streets together.
